Hey Amanda, tell us about your work!
My art is mostly figurative with a touch of surrealism. It is constantly changing because it is inspired by my personal life. I just became a mother last year. As a result my art is currently very inspired by my son, Benny. My favorite mediums at the moment are markers, ink, pencil and acrylic paint.
How did you get started?
I have been creating art since I was a toddler. I've always found it to be my safety zone and place I could let my imagination go. Translating my visual thoughts on to a piece of paper or canvas to me is like magic. I have been creating art consistently my entire life thanks to my parents who have always encouraged it and kept the spark alive by enrolling me in classes and renewing our local children's museum membership year after year. After high school I went on to get a BFA with a concentration in illustration from The University of North Carolina in Charlotte. Once I graduated I moved to Los Angeles. Within the year I was hired as a full-time in house illustrator for E! Entertainment. That job jumpstarted my career as an artist back in 2014.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in my everyday experiences.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Everything will work out if you keep creating. Stay consistent. Cut out negativity. Concentrate on what makes you happy. Gratitude is everything. You never lose, you only win or you learn. Keep learning, keep unlearning. You can get to where you want to go if you just rewire your brain to create the habits that align with your purpose and goals. But most importantly always play, have fun and pass it on. Give back along the way, always give back.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
