Hey Tyler, tell us about your work!
My work explores images removed from their original context and repurposed in order to create a new meaning. I work digitally and combine typography, collage, and pattern to create vibrant artworks.
How did you get started?
My first freelance job was licensing a collage for a t-shirt by a surf company. When I first started I initiated a practice of making several new pieces of artwork everyday in order to build an archive that I could document my work. I used these artworks as a reference of my progress as well as a portfolio to send to prospective clients.
Where do you find inspiration?
My main inspiration comes from surfing. I think the unpredictable and ever changing nature of it synergizes really well with the life of a freelance artist. My color palette also is a reflection of the bright and colorful world of surfing.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Keep on going. You know what you want and if you keep going you will get there.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I love wearing big poufy jackets with a hood. I love being completely relaxed when I work. It worked well is Seattle but not so much in southern California.
